AI AssistantOn April 13, 2025, night sky watchers will be treated to a beautiful sight—the Pink Micromoon. While the name might suggest a rosy-hued moon, this full moon won’t actually appear pink. Instead, the name originates from the pink wildflowers, specifically creeping phlox, that bloom during this time of year.

This particular full moon is also classified as a micromoon, meaning it will appear slightly smaller and dimmer than usual. This occurs when the moon is at its farthest point from Earth in its orbit, creating a subtle difference in size compared to a typical full moon.

Capture: On this day, I visited my favorite secluded location on Guemes Island. I set my camera on the tripod and prepared for the perfect moment. It was a stunning spot surrounded by wildlife and enveloped in tranquility. While appreciating the wildlife, I adjusted my settings and consulted my SkyView Lite app to determine the precise location and timing of the rise. I was to discover that the moon would rise directly over the Three Fingers Mountain range in Washington. The moon's edge emerges from the landscape, perfectly with my expectations. The position was ideal for the shot. I continued capturing the moonrise at one-minute intervals until it came fully into view.

Note: Capturing night shots is an exciting endeavor, though it can be challenging if hiking to your location. Ensure you pack safety equipment and a flashlight, as you never know what you might encounter on your hike. I always use the SkyView Lite App for photography; it is excellent for planets or stars in the night sky. Stay safe!
